Engine Will Not Start

• Stale fuel: Drain old gasoline and refill with fresh fuel before starting the snow blower.
• Choke or throttle setting: Use full choke for cold starts and verify the throttle is set to fast when required.
• Spark plug problem: Inspect, clean, gap, or replace the spark plug if the engine cranks but does not start.
• Fuel system blockage: Check the fuel shutoff valve, fuel line, primer bulb, carburetor bowl, and air intake for blockage.

Auger or Impeller Not Turning

• Broken auger belt: Remove the belt cover and inspect the belt for cracking, glazing, stretching, or breakage.
• Shear bolts damaged: Replace broken shear bolts with correct Ariens replacement parts only.
• Loose attachment clutch cable: Adjust the auger engagement cable if the handle moves but the auger does not rotate.
• Impeller jam: Shut down the machine and check for ice, stones, or packed snow in the housing.

Poor Snow Throwing Performance

• Clogged discharge chute: Stop the engine, remove the key, wait for all moving parts to stop, then clear with a clean-out tool.
• Wet or packed snow: Reduce travel speed and take smaller passes to maintain throwing distance.
• Worn scraper blade: Replace the scraper blade, shave plate, or skid shoes if snow is left behind.
• Loose impeller belt: Inspect attachment belt tension and replace worn belts if snow discharge is weak.

Drive System Problems

• No forward or reverse movement: Inspect the traction drive belt, friction disc, wheel lock pins, axle components, and clutch cable adjustment.
• Slipping while driving: Replace worn friction disc rubber or adjust the traction control linkage.
• Track drive not moving: Check track tension, sprockets, drive cable adjustment, and frozen buildup around the track assembly.

Chute and Control Issues

• Chute will not rotate: Inspect the chute crank, gear assembly, quick-turn control, cable routing, and frozen snow buildup.
• Deflector stuck: Remove packed ice and lubricate chute deflector pivot points.
• Auto-turn pulling to one side: Check tire pressure, scraper height, skid shoe adjustment, and surface conditions.
• Electric start not working: Confirm outlet power, inspect extension cord, and verify starter switch connections.

Safety note: Always stop the engine, remove the ignition key, disconnect the spark plug wire, and wait for all moving parts to stop before service. Never clear the chute or auger housing by hand.
